The theme for this year’s teen summer reading program at the Jefferson public library is “The Great Summer Pandemic Adventure!” Teens going into grades 6-12 are invited to participate in this free program from June 18 to Aug. 13.
The program has two parts: reading and adventure kits. When teens read and fill out a book review for at least four books this summer, they can enter a drawing for one of five prizes to be given away in August, such as a tablet, movie passes, or outdoor games.
There are more than 70 new books in the library’s teen area to choose from, or teens can use their library cards to check out a book from BRIDGES eBook library at no charge. Books do not have to be checked out from the library.
Since library staff can’t get together as a group with the teens this summer due to the pandemic, staff will hand out a new “Adventure Kit” every Thursday afternoon at the library. Each Adventure Kit will take teens on a different adventure. There will be craft projects, outdoor games, a scavenger hunt around town, a kindness project, and even an adventure or two in their own kitchen. When the teens pick up their adventure kit, they will also receive a free snack in a bag.
Registration begins Thursday, June 18. Teens may pick up their information packet to begin reading and their first adventure kit that day, or they may join any time during the summer. Teens can call the library at 515-386-2835 for more information.
